Creating in Pairs : Andrew Roberts

It is my turn again here on the Scrapmatts blog.
April is half way through and I have had a very creative time over the last few weeks.
I have been playing with some more Scrapmatts stencils and incorporating some wonderful chipboard.

As you may have noticed I have included the word pairs in my blog post title.
Have ever been creating and end up with left over die cuts, extra paint on your palette
or other materials where you may have over prepared.

What do you do? Do you just toss them out, save them and forget where you put them or
have a big collection that you have good intentions
but never get around to using them.

My projects have ended a pigeon pair as I used up extra paint texture paste and
embellishments that I had leftover from my first project for this month.

I used a few Scrapmatts stencils which I am fast
becoming addicted to.
I forgot to say these two projects I have jumped out on a limb and gone really bright
you might need your sunglasses.

April creating with Lizzy.

Hello there! I have a few things to share with you today using the wonderful SCRAPMATTS products.

I have created a canvas and would like to share how I created it.

I got my Scrapmatts chipboard pieces and lay them on the canvas just how I wanted them, added a bit of lace and glued it all down and then gave the whole canvas a good coating of gesso. I left the canvas to dry overnight.
This is what it looked like..

The next day I got 3 mists and lightly sprayed over my canvas and again I let it dry thoroughly. I  mat my photo and placed a few fussy cut flowers and tags around, a title and my canvas was complete.

The chipboard that I used was CB 6005 Ornate Frames 05, CB5142 Retro Squares 02, CB5137 Ornate Toppers 01, CB 2012 Page Border 10 (Cogs) the butterflies from CB4015 and my Title from CB6112 Scrap Words 31.

I would also like to share a layout I created for a design team I am on.  I wanted to add some texture  to the background of the layout with some stencilling so I spread some gesso on my page and then used two Scrapmatts stencils ST1003 and ST1004 with texture paste and when dry I sprayed some silver mist. I just love how it looked!

I also wanted to frame my photo with a lovely oval frame CB6012 floral frame so I placed it over my photo and drew around it and then cut my photo to fit inside the frame.. I embossed the frame with white embossing powder. So it looked like this before I put it on my layout.

I then put my photo on my page, cut out some die cuts with dies and embellished my layout and the completed layout looks like this..

I love how the photo looks in the frame so don't hesitate to use those oval frames around your photos.

I also have a little tag I created which would look lovely with a gift. I have used a die cut with some fussy cut flowers and I popped a gorgeous Scrapmatts Lamppost CB5028 coated with black gesso, and a butterfly from the set CB4012 frames on my tag..

I hope I have provided a little inspiration to get out your Scrapmatt stencils and chipboards and use them..  They look better on your projects than in the packets!! Pop over to the SCRAPMATTS STORE and have a look around.

Thanks for coming by and have a great day!

Canvas, layout and card

Hello there Scrappy Friends, it’s Helen with you today; I have three projects to share with you, each showing the versatility of
Scrapmatts products.
The team was asked to use a photo of ourselves on a canvas. Gulp!
I have very few photos of myself and I had never used canvas before.
But nothing like a good challenge to get the creative juices flowing.
I loved the way the canvas responded to all the mixed media,
staying firm and straight.
First, I applied a coat of gesso, before using texture paste
through Scrapmatts stencils, I used ST 1003 Stencil Sticks
ST 1004 Stencil Bubbles, then I used various mists, sprays
and inks to achieve colour. The chipboard used is listed below.

CB 1021 Flowers 01
CB 6103 Scrap Words 21
CB 1146 Leaf Spray 01
CB Butterflies 02
CB 1188 Birds 06
The Flowers were heat embossed with Stampendous
"Aged Scarlet" embossing powder.
The bird was heat embossed too.
The leaves and butterflies were painted with Twinkling H2O's.
The title needed no treatment at all.
I scattered some thread and a few beads around.

For the "Imagination" layout I used
the alphabet flags as the title and thought they combined
beautifully with the kite. The quote is from Lauren Bacall.

CB 6085 Alphabet Flags 04
CB 5036 Kites 01
A few embellishments from my stash.

I tried to achieve a weathered look on the kite with acrylic paints.
The flair is from Studio Fourteen 40

My journalling is on the back of the layout and it reads:-
You three little Grandchildren wanted to play outside.  “Can we dig some dirt Granny?”  “Sure, where do you want to dig?”  “Somewhere with lots of room, so we can make a river and a lake”  With a spot chosen under the orange tree, you formed a team. Without any discussion a foreman nominated himself, a second in charge assumed that role, which left a very willing girl to do the water carrying.  You spent hours slopping around in the mud, discussing the merits of digging through to the other side of the world before dinner and other important matters. The session ended with a mud pie bake off and a taste testing for Granny.
What a delight to see you using your vivid imaginations
in the great outdoors having good, dirty, fun.

Finally, a Birthday card for someone special, using Maja papers and an embossing folder to showcase the chipboard,
the CB 1244 Scrap Words 30, I left raw
CB 5035 Hot Air Balloons 01, was heat embossed
and the CB 1109 Heart Spray 01 painted with silver.
for the full range of Scrapmatts chipboard, (Acid Free,) stencils and other products.  You can order direct from the manufacturer.

Live Life Canvas

Good Morning Everyone, Rhonda here with you today with my Scrapmatts blog post...

This month I created three totally different projects to share with you all...

The first of my project's is a canvas "about me" and set by Sofie which was a challenge by itself and I must admit it was the hardest challenge I have faced for some time.
For starters I didn't possess a recent photo of me, so hubby said ok lets go and take a few photo's, so that was the photo out of the way...
The next problem I faced was having to use the photo on the canvas, no doubt a lot artists feel the same...

My canvas is titled "Live Life."

Firstly I used three different stencils for the background, I then worked out the rest of the chipboard pieces I would use and tried some stencilling on the them, it turned out quite effective...

Next I chose what colours I was going to use, I picked a few LSG starburst spray mists. I also inked the chipboard pieces once the texture paste was dry...

I laid the chipboard pieces where I wanted them to go to make sure they would not go past the edge, and once I was happy I glued everything down and I was done...

The products I used for this project are as follows
Scrapwords 24 - CB1238 in Burnt Cream
LSG - Time Travel Teal
LSG - Jazzy Jivin Purple
LSG - Magnolia Magenta Gold

I also used a few things from my stash
Prima Flowers - Butterfly - Bulbe
WOC - Sweetheart Blossoms
White Cotton Twine
Texture Paste
A stickpin I made

My second project is a quick present for my husband as it was our Wedding Anniversary on the 23rd March.

Chocolate bar slide cover is called
"Just For You"

I made the box and I wanted to decorated it very masculine, so it was a prime opportunity to use this awesome chipboard set from my DT pack...

Once I glued everything into place I got a small piece of chain and tucked one end under the belt and joined the other end to the top of the pocket watch...

Products used for this projects are
Mens Accesories 01 - CB1201
Buckles & Belts 01 - CB 1231
Patterned Paper - Fab Scraps - Shabby Blues (Retired)
Cardstock - Steel Grey Foil (From My Stash) A piece of chain.

My third and final project for this month is a card titled
"Birthday Wishes"

For this card I started with a white card base, then started building, before I got to far I found the Dress form chipboard piece I was going to feature and placed it on a piece of white card where I wanted to start creating the background, I had a mauve spray mist  that I wanted to use and spayed over the chipboard piece using it as a stencil in a few different places, I then used my heat tool and dried the card and my dress form chipboard piece, it turned out really pretty...

I used some gauze to sit under my Dress form with a pearl trim, a small resin crown and a crown charm, a velvet flower and some WOC flowers
I also used Micro Chips 18 to sit under the greeting...

Products I used for this card are
CB6036 - Dress Forms 01
MC1026 - Micro Chips 18
Cardstock - White and Teal,
White Gauze,
Pearl Trim,
Metal charm Crown,
 Resin Crown,
 Velvet Flower,
Seed Beads in Teal and Mauve,
 Micro Beads in Silver,
Pearls in Teal and Mauve,
 and some Sequins.

So there you have it my three projects created...

Thanks for stopping by, make sure you come back soon to see what the rest of the New Design team have been creating.

Until next time!

Steampunk Canvas and Tags - Lauren Tomecek

Hello chipboard lovers! I hope you had a good Easter. Regulars to the blog will have seen lots of the other Design Team members sharing their display canvases and tody I'm doing the same. If you get a chance to attend a craft expo where Scrapmatts is exhibiting be sure to check out all the canvases on display together, they always look amazing!

I've used quite a few different chipboard pieces here: CB5132 Chains 01, CB6113 Scrap Words 32, CB5137 Ornate Toppers 01, CB5124 Hexagon Mesh 03, CB1017 Keys 01, CB1230 Hinges, Keys & Keyholes 03, CB1124 Hinges 01, CB1078 Gears 05. I also used ST5007 Stencil Stones on the background.

I had wanted to do a steampunk-style piece for quite a while now and decided this would be the perfect chance to give it a go. Of course, being a new style I thought it best to practice on a smaller scale before starting work on the canvas so I tried out two different styles on some tags. Tags are so versatile for this purpose and now I can keep them to refer to later or add to layouts/cards in the future.

 A lot of the chipboard is the same as used on the canvas. Left tag: CB3007 Tags 03, CB5132 Chains 01, CB1239 Scrap Words 25, CB1078 Gears 05. Right tag: CB3007 Tags 03, CB1078 Gears 05, CB1017 Keys 01, CB6113 Scrap Words 32, CB602 Ornate Frame 02, CB5111 Layered Fob Watch 02.

Gumnut Babies - By Crece T

Hello everyone, Crece here with you today on the Scrapmatts blog.
I was looking through some of my old children's books the other day when I came across an old favorite by May Gibbs, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. I remember reading this when i was in grade 2 and its always been a book I've loved. So I wondered if I could come up with a Gumnut baby inspired project using some of the new Australiana items that Scrapmatts have designed... have a look and tell me what you think...

  Gumnut Babies Frame

and here are the close ups...

These Gum leaves add such an Australian touch to the project, to colour them I used green ink and then added some brown ink to the edges to highlight each leaf.

I have used the following Scrapmatts products...
(top left of frame)

(Once Upon A Time)

I have also created a card using one of the Scrapmatts Stencils...

Happy Birthday Chess Card

I used the Chess Pieces Stencil to create the card above.

I started with the checkerboard and used black Gesso with an old credit card.
I then used Inka Gold in the Silver and Blue through the stencil for the chess pieces.
I cut around the chess pieces and layered them up on
CB5016 Nested Shapes 02 coloured in the same silver and blue inka gold.
I finished teh card off with a greeting from the new chipboard set

Head on over to the Scrapmatts Gallery to check out some of the fantastic work from the other Design Team members for some awesome inspiration and ideas.

Thanks for stopping by

A warm welcome to the new month of April!

The start of a new month of inspiration with the amazing
'Scrapmatts Design Team'

Kim here, to share with you a couple of my latest creations!

I have made a special card & matching tag.

I've kept the colours quite neutral so they can be used for either a baby boy or girl.

I loved these rocking horses as soon as laid eyes on them & teamed with the
assorted word arrows, I think they are a divine match!
I have also used Prima flowers, lace & satin seam binding.
The paper is from 'American Crafts'
