April creating with Helen - two layouts and a card

Hi there Scrappy friends, welcome back.
Today I'm sharing some projects for the SCRAPMATTS Design team.

The first two pieces were also combined with CSI challenges,
as Scrapmatts was generously sponsoring them.

Scrapmatts products used:-

I used one of Laura Whitakers sketches from March 2016 - thank you Laura.

The second project, was also a combined challenge for CSI/Scrapmatts
The Scrapmatts chipboard circle was wet embossed.
The Title was painted with distress ink and clear embossed
and the heart was randomly dabbed with a water colour wash.

Scrapmatts products used:-
CB1071 Hearts 04

Finally I have a masculine card inspired by my friend Margaret Mifsud.  I was honoured to receive one of her fabulous cards at Christmas time and loved the double front fold.
I used one of my favourite new stencils. ST5046 - Latttice
with some Gold Colour Blast paste on the background.
The chipboard flourishes were wet embossed. CB4069 Ornate Frames

And the CB1244 - Scrapwords 40 were left cream.
Thanks for visiting today, I hope you will look out for the next
SCRAPMATTS design team post in a day or two.

Scrapmatts sponsor CSI during March

Hello Scrappy friends, welcome back, lovely to have you visit again.
is sponsoring CSI this month and the Scrapmatts team have been invited to Guest design for CSI.  Thank you Debbi Tehrani, your challenges are fun and make me think outside the box.

It’s easy to play along, just use all five colours, at least three of the evidence clues
and at least one of the testimony clues.
I used gesso on the white background before applying texture paste through the diamond stencil and splashing some ink around.
I love the fabric flag from Charms creations
and the Flair is from Funky Flair Studio, it seemed perfect for a pregnancy photo.

The Scrapmatts chipboard circle was wet embossed.

The papers are from Heidi Swapp, "September Skies" and Studio Calico "Wanderlust"

The Title was painted with distress ink and clear embossed
and the heart was randomly dabbed with a water colour wash.

Evidence
Stars, Stitching, Diamond shape, (the texture paste),  Circles (the flairs and the chipboard), Washi tape, Bunting.

Testimony
I chose to journal about Adventure.

It was a hot day when this photo was taken in December, about six weeks before you were born.  Mummy and Daddy were off on another Adventure, not travelling this time, but an adventure into parenting.  I’m sure it will be as exciting, memorable, exhausting and rewarding as any previous holiday. Something they’ve planned and longed for and something which will fill their hearts with love.   I hope you are a calm and happy Baby like your Daddy was and I know you will call them both to their higher selves, as parenting is the most important job they will ever have.  We can’t wait to meet you little one.

The second project I made as a special gift for my DIL.
It's on canvas, because I wanted to use a lot of mixed media.
First I chose a mixture of sprays, acrylic and water colour paints to create
the ombre shading on the background.
The textured effect was achieved by applying crackle paste through one of the new stencils.  ST 9002-A5, before over spraying with mists.
The large circle is String circle was wet embossed.  I liked the symbolism it created.
The butterfly was a gift from my kind friend Marilyn,
when the one I had planned using was just too big.
The flowers are a mixture of older and new products, mostly Prima and K&Co.
I love the heart sprays peeking out from the clusters.
The stamp set is from Ranger, Dina Wakley quotes.
The flair is from Funky Flair studio.

String Circles Showcase by Lauren Tomecek

I loved the original string circles when Scrapmatts first brought them out. Then Sofie and Andrew made them better by bring out new designs with dots, stars or arrows on the circles. Last month they expanded the range again to release a pack with larger sized circles! I fell in love and knew I had to play with them right away.

My circle for this layout looks a bit more like an oval, because I actually chopped it in half to open up that inside area a bit more. It doesn't go all the way around under the photos or the flower cluster. I love cutting up my chipboard to make it last that little bit longer or get it to suit my layout better. I've done the same thing with the leaves and the diamond background pieces.

My second layout is actually the one I created first, so it used the largest sized string circle and I haven't cut this one. I had a lot of fun creating that background circle with Gelatos but it did warp the page a fair bit. Some chipboard butterflies made the perfect scatter embellishments.

Don't forget, you can share your string circle creations with us on the Ning Gallery or Facebook page.

Picture Perfect and a Card

Helen with you today.  Welcome to the New Year.
I hope your festive season has been filled with Joy and Peace.
Well we are off and running with another year of creating
and today I’m sharing two projects for the Scrapmatts DT.

to check out all the wonderful products in the store
I’ve used 49 and Market paper for the background, the Vintage Artistry collection, "Botanical Press".  The paper is sturdy enough to take lots of mixed media.
I used all sorts of left over bits and pieces of papers to form the mats.
I love this stencil which I used with texture paste and LSG spray
The Honeycomb chipboard was treated with Lindy’s Stamp Gang “Moon Shadow” mist
The Leather look Chipboard words matched the papers well without any treatment.

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-

This is one of my favourite "little bubba" photos of you Oliver.  It shows your happy nature and your twinkling eyes.  It also shows that you still have your front teeth, so it was taken before they got knocked out.   Not long after this, you had a bit of a fall when Mummy took you to the play ground and you knocked your teeth right up into your gums.  The dentist said they might me OK and they did gradually come down again.  But one day when we were looking after you, you tripped and knocked them right out!!!  Oh no!  I was mortified that it happened on my watch. It was late in the day, we couldn't phone a dentist or get hold of your parents, who were on their way to pick you up.  The perils of Baby sitting.   Now at almost six, you still have a big gap in the front.
The perils of Baby sitting!  Photo taken 5th March 2013

The card was created on water colour paper.
The diamonds on the background were created by using crackle paste through
then rubbing distress ink into the cracks.
I used alcohol inks on acetate to create the butterfly.

Family Affair by: Rhonda

Yep, I'm back again with some more delights
for you all and this time it is the usual two creations
jam-packed with some awesome

The first is a canvas that features one of my
life's loves in that of my Son and the other is a layout
featuring another love being my Daughter (with her partner).

Live Life
& Make The Most Of Today

On the blank canvas I used ST1002 Diamonds as well as
front and side to give a bit of texture.
On these I sprayed colours to enhance the stencilling.
Next I layered hessian, paper & corrugated cardboard (all
of earthy colours) to match the design I was
looking for as a background for the photo.
Added to these background components I also
applied colours like I did with the canvas

Under the photo & backing I placed CB1232 Film Strip 05 with
CB2006 Page Border 05 at the bottom and a
piece of that same border at the top alongside
a hand crafted barbed wire.

The rounded arrowheads of CB5140 String Circles 04
wasn't big enough for what I wanted so I adapted two.
CB5132 Chains 01 was round but I stretched it
into an oval to highlight the subject.

I am never at a loss with the massive selection Scrapmatts
offer when it comes to matching Scrap Words with
my creations and on this occasion CB6112 Scrap Words 31
was where my search ended for the canvas title...

You & Me

The base of this one starts like many layouts with a
piece of patterned paper over cardstock.

The purpose of placing the bulk of the work to the
lower section was to create space for the lamp
and for it to look like it was illuminating the image.
Scrapmatts Frame 02 CB4007 was the perfect match
for the picture I had chosen and the sheer size of it
meant it was going to be the main focus point.

Behind this I placed a bit of coloured gauze and
littered the page with an accompaniment of
flowers and embellishments.
A little depth was added to the photo by placing a
small scrap of cardboard behind it.

This close up gives an idea of how the gauze was
layered and how well it worked and
softened the edge of the stencils

A very much appropriate CB6105 Assorted Words 23,
married well with the overall look & theme

Without these two large flowers the layout was looking
bare & unfinished and I was pleased with
the fullness they afforded.
