Spring has Sprung here at Scrapmatts!

Hello, dear creative friends!
Kim here to kick start the new month.

It's the start of Spring here in Australia are I'm sure we are all looking
forward to some warmer days....although our farmers are hoping for a lot more rain as it's been a dry Winter for them here in NSW.

Today, I have two large gift tags to share with you!
The first is a Father's Day tag.
I've kept it rather simple.....

To create this tag I used basic cardstock. Between the base layer and the bird layer I have stuck a piece of thick corrugated cardboard, (cut from a box). To add some height to my tag.

The Marine Life chipboard was perfect for my project.

Lately I have really loved projects using dark/black backgrounds, so I thought
I would create a tag using black cardboard as my base.

Here is my 2nd creation for you today!

With a great majority of Scrapmatts chipboard, when purchasing you can select which colour you would like the product to be in. With the Mini Frames on my project I had these in white mist. This is a great selection as it allows you to add colour of your own choice.

I do hope you have enjoyed looking at my creations as much as I enjoyed creating them!

Our Design Team post every 2nd day here at Scrapmatts, so make sure you stop by regularly
to see what our fabulous team have been creating.

Why not head over to the
SCRAPMATTS ONLINE STORE

and check out the awesome products available!

Wishing all the Dad's out there a very
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
 for Sunday 2nd September

Until next time
Happy crafting

ATCs and Cards - Lauren Tomecek

A very happy good morning to you all! Today my baby turns 3 years old and if I'd been planning ahead, I would have done a couple of layouts of him to celebrate. But instead, I was too busy trying to plan the party and get everything ready for my family visit, so I have a variety of small projects to share instead. :)

I'm a big fan of ATCs as they were the start of my journey into scrapbooking. They are also really great projects for when you only have a short amount of creative time. For these ones, I painted ATC10-010 Bracket 01 with gesso, then sprinkled watercolourpowders across them and activated with water. They had a beautiful vibrant colour while wet but unfortunately the gesso mutes that as they dry.

I've used stencil ST5024 in the background of all three ATCs, but each one was used differently. On 'Discover' I used a small Versacolor stamp pad in charcoal to ink through the stencil, this gave the crispest edges to the image. On 'Remember' I misted black ink through the stencil, you can see it leaked in some places because my ATC based had warped a bit after the gesso layer. Finally, on 'Inspire' I flipped the stencil over and stamped the left over mist onto the image, then misted white Glimmermist to highlight the design.

The sentiments all come from CB1199 Scrapwords 07. The leaf pieces come from CB1146 Leaf Spray 01, CB5144 Layered Poinsettias 01 and CB1235 Leaf Spray 14. I finished them off with the lace, flowers, sequins and enamel dots.

It's always a good idea to have a few birthday cards in your stash. This one didn't hang around long, I've ready given it to a friend! I used ST9018-A6 in the background, just as straight gesso over the background. Chipboard pieces include CB5087 Leaf Spray 09 and CB6100 Words 29.

The second card uses the same background technique as the first, but I've taken it in a different direction. I can never go past a pun and the CB4067 Marine Life 02 set was perfect for this one. The chipboard has been painted using distress inks stamped onto my craft mat then spritzed with water and painted on.

The last card is another birthday one which has a galaxy feel to it. Quite simple in design, but I think the background really makes it pop. The stencil is ST1008, I used Versamark through the stencil then embossed this with a clear embossing powder to create a resist effect. The chipboard is CB6100 Words 29 and CB1223 Stars 03, both have been painted with acrylic paint.

Maybe next month I'm be organised enough to show you a layout celebrating my son's birthday. ;)

Marine Life Trio By: Rhonda

The pages of the calendar flip by with much speed
and I have again been industrious in the craft room.
This time I have a 3 in 1 project to share that
is a set of marine inspired tags using again
some lovelies from Scrapmatts

Marine Life Tag Trio

I found some patterned paper that would suit a
marine theme and stuck them to both sides of the

The idea here with these stencilled backs took me back
to a time in my life fishing on boats. ST1022 String Beads was sort of
an abstraction of the extreme weather conditions, ST1030 Clouds
was very symbolic again of what to expect miles from
the mainland whilst ST1006 Stars is reminiscent of
days since past where fishermen used them for navigation.

Here is the reverse side of the tags and after applying
paper I stencilled using modelling paste.
I was so impressed with the stencils that in the future
I intend to further showcase the texture of a wide range from
Sofie's wondrous and very diverse stencil collections.

I first placed a piece of left over coloured gauze over
patterned paper to set the marine look.
Following that I utilised 3 stamps that I coloured & glossed
whilst creating a bit of depth by adding a border to each,
these were positioned on the tag to best enhance
the Scrapmatts CB5056 Twigs 02 & Seaweed from
CB1221 Nautical Designs 04 and the inclusion of
actual shells gave the 3 dimensional feel I was looking to capture.

Again, the gauze was used to give a fishing net appearance
over the patterned paper but this time the stamped images I
used were cut out and coloured with a sort of scientific
labelling of each and each were clear glossed.

I tried to tie the tags into the theme by utilising similar products
on each by way of using marine flora & fauna.
Scrapmatts was on the ball again here to help me
Often with nautical themes you find stars and star fish so
a little CB1223 Stars 03 was included.
A few micro shells finished the tag off nicely.

There was no gauze on this one but the checkered
patterned paper background seemed sufficient to me
and also allowed me to better showcase the fact that I used
seahorses in each tag with different techniques.
This time by applying a clear gloss over select parts.

With every boat there always has to be seagulls somewhere
nearby and both were sourced from CB1221 Nautical Designs 04...
I also added the licence number on the hull for a realistic look.
Also from the same pack was the seaweed.

July with Amy

Hello My Scrapmatts Friends,

Amy Here, I have been looking forward to showing you my scrapmatts creations for you.

LETS start with Colour Inspire Story Challenge Blog CASE Number 202

For this layout I have used CB5155
Here is Winter
I cut this chipboard into two pieces and painted it with some colourblast paste and sponged gesso over the top to lighten the colour

The next layout I have called Forever in the Sun.
I have used CB4067
 And ST1035
Materials - Colour Blast shimmer powders and pastes, Tim Holtz Distressed Crayons, Scrapmatts and Cocoa Vanilla Studio
Let me show you some details
Using the Stencil I used some texture paste around the frame of this layout and painted with Distressed Crayons and water
I've painted the chipboard with Black and Cream Acrylics. Some of the pieces have dimensional magic added as well
Using Colour Blast shimmer powders I created the background behind the chipboard. Its very glittery in real life and really helps the chipboard pop!

I hope you enjoyed my layouts for you this month.

Stay Scrappy
Amy,

By The Sea created by Rhonda

Hello Scrapmatts Crafty Friends, Followers and Visitors...

I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to be chosen as one of the very talented New Design Team Members for my very favourite chipboard companies,

My first project is By the Sea
I started my first project off by using the pearlised Dew Drop Inks sold at ScrapmattsI coloured all the chipboard pieces then used a thin coat of crackle medium to give them all a 3D textured look...
In the mean time I took a piece of cardboard and used a scalpel to cut shapes out of the top layer of the cardboard to create the background to make it look a bit like waves, I then covered the cardboard with white Dylusions ink and once dry I mixed some acrylic blue paint and water and sprayed that over the dried ink, I was happy with the results as it turned out like a crazed look...
I then glued all the chipboard pieces where I wanted them then added some
real shells to finish it off...
So there you have it, my first project is complete...
To find the chipboard pieces I have used for this project they are as follows... CB1221Nautical Designs 04   CB1226 Marine Life 01  CB6064 Nautical Designs 01 and CB4067 Marine Life 02...

For my second project I couldn't wait to use the new stencils...
For this project I gessoed a canvas, then brushed on some acrylic paints, I then used some modelling paste and used the the Stars Stencil to get the added affect of stars in the early evening...
I then used the Tyre Tracks stencil to show my son's 4WD driving a long the beach.
I inked the chipboard pieces I wanted to use...
I used the small CB5122 Hexagon Mesh and CB5131 Bubbles 01...

So there you have it my first 2 projects created...

Thanks for stopping by, make sure you come back soon to see what the rest of the New Design team have been creating.

Until next time!

Summer and Christmas - Lauren Tomecek

Scrapmatts has a fantastic range of nautical/ beach themed chipboard designs, so I was very excited to take Harrison for his first visit to the beach and have an excuse to use some of these pieces. Plus, he seemed to have a ball chasing seagulls and getting splashed by the waves.

Scrapmatts used: CB1209 Scrap Words 12, CB4059 Nautical Design 03 and CB4067 Marine Life 02. I also picked up the hessian ribbon and adorable anchor paperclip (in a pack of four designs) when I visited the Scrapmatts stand at an expo last year. It is always worth visiting them at an expo, as meeting Andrew and Sofie in person is a real treat and they run the best classes. Plus, they normally have specials on extra bits and pieces like these which you can't order online. :)

My second project is a double page Christmas spread using two new release designs. This one shows how many different techniques you can use to colour chipboard. Some parts have been inked with a stamp pad, some have been painted with acrylic paints and some parts have been coloured with pens.

Scrapmatts used: CB5145 Christmas Shapes 01 and CB5144 Layered Poinsettias 01. The poinsettias look great layered up but I've chosen to keep mine to only one or two layers to share them around the page a bit more.

I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year and managed to find some time to create. Don't forget to share your creations with us over at the Ning gallery!

At The Beach and Some Birthday Cards by Lauren

I live on the Gold Coast, which is known for being a coastal tourist attraction centre, so you would think that when Scrapmatts released a new Marine Life chipboard set I would be all over it, right? Wrong, I rarely head to the beach, largely due to my pale skin which goes from white to red in about 10 minutes flat regardless of the amount of sunscreen I slather on. The chipboard did look adorable though so I eventually remembered I had these photos from a morning stroll I did with friends sometime last year and set to work.

All the chipboard comes from CB4067 Marine Life 02. I have used seven pieces on this layout and there are still fifteen left in the sheet! The pink/orange pieces have been coloured with Gelatos, the blue pieces with Glimmermist and the seaweed has been left natural in the white mist finish the sheet came in.

My second set of projects for the Scrapmatts DT this month are a couple of birthday cards. Chipboard is the perfect embellishment for cardmaking. It is relatively flat, light weight and can easily be coloured to match any colour scheme. I whipped up two quick birthday cards for family members in the past month and they were both very impressed with the results.

Chipboard for both my frame and sentiment in this earthy card. I used CB1198 Scrapwords 06 and CB6091 Ornate Frames 19. After creating my own patterned paper in this second card all I needed was some glitter alphas and some chipboard chevrons (CB5106 Chevrons 01).

If you've created a card, or any other project, using Scrapmatts chipboard please come share it with us in the gallery.
