ATCs and Cards - Lauren Tomecek

A very happy good morning to you all! Today my baby turns 3 years old and if I'd been planning ahead, I would have done a couple of layouts of him to celebrate. But instead, I was too busy trying to plan the party and get everything ready for my family visit, so I have a variety of small projects to share instead. :)

I'm a big fan of ATCs as they were the start of my journey into scrapbooking. They are also really great projects for when you only have a short amount of creative time. For these ones, I painted ATC10-010 Bracket 01 with gesso, then sprinkled watercolourpowders across them and activated with water. They had a beautiful vibrant colour while wet but unfortunately the gesso mutes that as they dry.

I've used stencil ST5024 in the background of all three ATCs, but each one was used differently. On 'Discover' I used a small Versacolor stamp pad in charcoal to ink through the stencil, this gave the crispest edges to the image. On 'Remember' I misted black ink through the stencil, you can see it leaked in some places because my ATC based had warped a bit after the gesso layer. Finally, on 'Inspire' I flipped the stencil over and stamped the left over mist onto the image, then misted white Glimmermist to highlight the design.

The sentiments all come from CB1199 Scrapwords 07. The leaf pieces come from CB1146 Leaf Spray 01, CB5144 Layered Poinsettias 01 and CB1235 Leaf Spray 14. I finished them off with the lace, flowers, sequins and enamel dots.

It's always a good idea to have a few birthday cards in your stash. This one didn't hang around long, I've ready given it to a friend! I used ST9018-A6 in the background, just as straight gesso over the background. Chipboard pieces include CB5087 Leaf Spray 09 and CB6100 Words 29.

The second card uses the same background technique as the first, but I've taken it in a different direction. I can never go past a pun and the CB4067 Marine Life 02 set was perfect for this one. The chipboard has been painted using distress inks stamped onto my craft mat then spritzed with water and painted on.

The last card is another birthday one which has a galaxy feel to it. Quite simple in design, but I think the background really makes it pop. The stencil is ST1008, I used Versamark through the stencil then embossed this with a clear embossing powder to create a resist effect. The chipboard is CB6100 Words 29 and CB1223 Stars 03, both have been painted with acrylic paint.

Maybe next month I'm be organised enough to show you a layout celebrating my son's birthday. ;)

Chalk it Up In July

Chalk it Up

Hello and Welcome to July

Today I'm on the blog to share with you my DT projects for the month.

First up I have a Chalkboard that I have decorated with Scrapmatts Chipboard.

This chalkboard can be found in Kmart for the grand total of $5.00. What a Bargain!!!

This is the first side of the board.

Here I have attached the Scrapmatts butterfly and to decorate I have added some Kaisercraft Pearls and covered in glossy accents.

This is the other side of the board.

On this side I have added another butterfly.
The chipboard vine behind the flowers are also from Scrapmatts.

If you would like to recreate this chalkboard, then these are the products from Scrapmatts used

For the next project I have made a 4x6 canvas art.

To add texture to the base, I have used the Cobblestone stencil and then used some snow paste.

I coloured the canvas with mini distress ink Mowed Lawn.

The vines are coloured with Brilliance Gold Ink.

These very cute words are from the Scrapmatts Scrap Words.

This little charm is also from Scrapmatts.

All flowers used in these projects are from 49 and Market.
To add the sparkle to the canvas, I have used the sparkle pen from Close to my Heart.

Here is a list of the Scrapmatts products used

Stencil Fun - Lauren Tomecek

I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to find out Scrapmatts was expanding into stencils! Stencils are probably my second favourite scrapbooking item, after chipboard of course. :) They can be used in so many different ways and create so many different effects. I've used them a couple of different ways in this blog post and hope I've inspire you to pick up a few for yourself from their online shop.

First up, I created this canvas display piece. I had been saving this idea for a while now and the brick stencil was the last item I needed to make it happen. I applied texture paste through the stencil over the whole canvas, the different way the paste absorbs the mist makes for some great definition of the shapes. I then built up the scene with various chipboard pieces painted with acrylics.

Chipboard used: CB5137 Ornate Toppers 01, CB2026 Picket Fences 09, CB4058 Australian Federation Detail 03, CB5120 Windows 04, CB1146 Leaf Spray 01, CB2020 Vines 01, CB6071 Assorted Words 07.
Stencil: ST5013.

The stencils are also perfect for using to create backgrounds on cards. I whipped up this one for my husband for Valentine's Day. I used the diamonds stencil to add a subtle white gesso pattern and then misted over the paint splatters in two different colours.

Chipboard used: CB5113 Heart Frames 10, CB1199 Scrap Words 07.
Stencils: ST1002, ST5010.

This one has a wash of gesso for the background then the smaller paint splatters stencil in two colours. I love the random effect they give whilst in actual fact giving you total control of where the colour ends up.

Chipboard used: CB1121 Words 26 Best Wishes
Stencil: ST1009 Stencil Paint Drips

Don't forget that Scrapmatts is having a Design Team Call at the moment. Entries close on the 19th so you'll need to get a wriggle on but we would love to see you join the team!

Experimenting with Scrapmatts chippies!!

Create Tag
I actually created this one a while ago but forgot to share until now! On this one I have created a mixed media background on a tag and then layered the following Scrapmatts chipboards: CB1169 Wicker Chair 01CB1204 Ribbon Banners 01 which I stamped the word create on, CB1199 Scrapwords 07 (inspire)CB1189 Scrapwords 01 (wish) and CB1190 Scrapwords 02 (smile).

Next up here is a layout I created using a pic of my hubby and I at Yamba a few years ago on a child free holiday!

Kiss

on this one I have simply used: CB1197 Scrapwords 05 (Love is kind) and one of the gorgeous charms: CH013 Filigree Wrap #2 which I rubbed with inca gold to change the colour up a bit :)

Thanks for looking!

Welcome Autumn...

I love this time of the year when the weather starts to cool down (well supposedly anyway!) and the colours in nature turn to the beautiful rich and warm hues. I used these colours as my inspiration for this month's post - not that I need much pushing towards the vintage tones!
A little while ago I bought some gorgeous clipboards from Typo and at long last I had the opportunity to turn them into something pretty:

The one of the left shows how the clipboard started before it landed on the scrap desk!

Using Scrapmatts chipboard Ornate Frames CB1220, Butterflies CB1158 and Charms Filigree Flowers #2 CH004

The clip on the board was made to look old by using a rusting powder on the metal.

Next I worked on my tags that the DT are working on for each month of 2014. Last month I created the box and January's tag, so this month I wanted to catch up and completed February's tag (about love of course!) and March's tag:

Using Scrapmatts chipboard Tag CB3010, Ornate Frames CB6091, Cupids CB1166, Hearts CB1159, Scrapwords CB1190. Along with charms Arrow CH030 and Crown CH057. To make the word 'is' in the title, I cut up one of the 'Discover' Scrapwords.

My tag for March was one to remind me of my beautiful girls - lots of beautiful pink flowers!

Using Scrapmatts chipboard Tag CB3009, Ornate Frame CB6093 and Scrapwords CB1199

Don't forget if you are playing along with us and creating your own tags each month, we would love to see them in the Scrapmatts Gallery!
