Merry Month of May!

Hello, hello dear Scrapmatts Followers!
Kim here to start off the month......
May is the month that we give thanks to that special woman in our life, the one who gave us life, guided us in our formative years and is often the best friend we will ever know.....
OUR MUMS!
Here is a card I have made

I have teamed up the Brick stencil with some sweet Cocoa Vanilla Studio papers & the uber cute
elements from the Flannel Flowers chipboard pack and I have also used the negative from Assorted Words 21, for my card.
(Making best use of your purchases).

The next project I would like to share is a layout I created for the
Kraft+ Challenge Blog (last month).
The challenge was to use paint swatches on your layout!
I hadn't participated in a challenge for quite some time, and I really enjoyed it!
I scrapped my little Grandson 'Angus'
I loved this photo of him in all his thriving squishiness!!!
It just had to be scrapped!

[LOVE]

Again I have used a combination of chipboard & stencils

Look at those arms!!!
Using paint swatches is an awesome idea, so next time your at your local hardware, check then out!

Love Is In The Air by Rhonda

With Christmas done and dusted and my family fresh in my mind
the following 2 projects showcase the love my children
express to those close at heart.
Scrapmatts really do spoil me for choices with their diverse range
of products again making it easy to transpose my ideas into little
pleasures like the wee little Shadow Box and Happy Canvas below.

The Shadow Box's simplistic nature creates a great environment
to house special moments like this.

Cherished Moments

The shadow box comes like a flat pack and first needed assembling
so my 1st step was to glue the picture to the background.
From there you build the sides ensuring they are square with
the back and once dry assemble these two components...
To help the part stay together I wrapped it with some patterned paper.

Whilst they are drying its now time to work on the front.
For me this meant colouring each of the top frames in
sandy & ocean colours.
Dressing the box with some nautical marine chippies really made a difference...
I tried the lighthouse on the outside first but thought
it looked much better inside.
Affixing a piece of string to complement the beach feeling
to hang was the only thing left to do.

Happy

I just love doing canvases and taking inspiration from my
daughters dress set to work in my busy craft room.
To break up the plainness of the canvas and add depth
I first stencilled some circles & bricks then coloured it with some mists.
I then coloured the individual chipboard pieces with
Brilliance Inks and set them aside to dry.

The group of flowers in this and the opposing corner
were chosen to highlight the background whilst adding
that special bit of femininity.

I made a dress out of strips of lace, ribbon and string beads
the same colours as the dress in the photo and
draped it over a Dress Form.

The photo was from a night out at a wedding and I felt
that a chandelier would fit well with the theme but as
Scrapmatts didnt have one I made it myself out of an
ornate topper and some chain.

Again I turned to my lovely Scrap Words for a fitting title
and keeping it simple with just one word was my choice...

Bright and Colourful - Lauren Tomecek

Hello again fellow chipboard-lovers!

Are you like me and you keep all those left over bits of chipboard? You know the ones, when you only have one piece left from the sheet, or you take it out but change your mind so don't use it on the layout, or even the extra bits you get in the Scrapmatts kits if you take an expo class? I have had a great time using up some of my leftovers stash to form the base of a small canvas display piece. The great thing about it is that it doesn't really matter what you have in this stash, because it will mainly get covered up anyway.

Scrapmatts chipboard: CB6103 Scrap Words 21, CB6113 Scrap Words 32, CB6091 Ornate Frames 19, CB6110 Ornate Frame 25, plus bits and pieces left over. Stencil: ST5013 (this is my go-to stencil for background texture).

You can see in these detail shots the background detail created by putting some texture paste through the brick stencil as well as the layers of chipboard in the background prior to building up the frames. The gold frame is embossed, and the top frame has a watered down mist painted over white acrylic.

Project two is a simple yet colourful layout featuring a favourite photo of my son. I wanted the photo to be the focus, so have kept the embellishments fairly simple.

Stencil Fun - Lauren Tomecek

I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to find out Scrapmatts was expanding into stencils! Stencils are probably my second favourite scrapbooking item, after chipboard of course. :) They can be used in so many different ways and create so many different effects. I've used them a couple of different ways in this blog post and hope I've inspire you to pick up a few for yourself from their online shop.

First up, I created this canvas display piece. I had been saving this idea for a while now and the brick stencil was the last item I needed to make it happen. I applied texture paste through the stencil over the whole canvas, the different way the paste absorbs the mist makes for some great definition of the shapes. I then built up the scene with various chipboard pieces painted with acrylics.

Chipboard used: CB5137 Ornate Toppers 01, CB2026 Picket Fences 09, CB4058 Australian Federation Detail 03, CB5120 Windows 04, CB1146 Leaf Spray 01, CB2020 Vines 01, CB6071 Assorted Words 07.
Stencil: ST5013.

The stencils are also perfect for using to create backgrounds on cards. I whipped up this one for my husband for Valentine's Day. I used the diamonds stencil to add a subtle white gesso pattern and then misted over the paint splatters in two different colours.

Chipboard used: CB5113 Heart Frames 10, CB1199 Scrap Words 07.
Stencils: ST1002, ST5010.

This one has a wash of gesso for the background then the smaller paint splatters stencil in two colours. I love the random effect they give whilst in actual fact giving you total control of where the colour ends up.

Don't forget that Scrapmatts is having a Design Team Call at the moment. Entries close on the 19th so you'll need to get a wriggle on but we would love to see you join the team!
