Exciting Times

Hello, Tracey here with you today.
We are all very excited here at Scrapmatts as we have the most fabulous New Chipboard to play with! Andrew and Sophie have been busy filling the Online Store with new goodies to add to your projects.

I have two projects that I have created using the gorgeous "Mesh" Range.  These are just so versatile to use on any of your projects.

"Remember This Moment"
Off The Page Clock

I know this clock isn't exactly all that useable now that I have attacked it with structure paste, mists, flowers and Scrapmatts Chipboard, but I had a lot of fun playing with this and it will looks great sitting on the dresser in my guests bedroom.

The little birds in flight CB1188 Birds 06, are just a perfect addition to any project.

I just love this little bench (CB1175 Benches 03) they are so cute and a great addition to any garden themed project.

I have used the CB5127 Diamond Mesh 03 and cut it up into pieces to add interest to my flower cluster and no flower cluster would be complete without a chipboard leaf spray

"Life"

I just love creating and adding texture to my backgrounds. For this project I have used Sprays, H2O twinkling's, stencils, texture paste and distress inks.

For the gorgeous mesh background CB5130 Circle Mesh 03, I have white washed it with a distress paint, then sprinkled white embossing powder over and heat embossed.  This gave me the uneven rustic look that I wanted. I have also added a    Scrapmatts Charms to my flower cluster as this gives my layout not only a rustic look but a bit more masculine too.

Make sure you pop over to have a look at the great new chippie we have in store, I am in love with all the mesh backgrounds and the chains and buckles!

Happy Scrapping
Tracey

Happy Together - by Lauren Tomecek

Mixed media is not new to scrapbooking by any means and it is a technique which I really enjoy for the opportunity to get messy and just keep layering. Scrapmatts has recently released a range of mesh chipboard pieces which are perfect to use on mixed media pieces. I have used the larger circle mesh (CB5130 Circle Mesh 03) on this layout and created a tutorial if you want to create a similar layout.

Photos for steps 1-4 are at the bottom of that set of instructions.
1/ Take a piece of cardboard/chipboard and start laying down materials for your background. You can see I have cut part of my mesh into three pieces and positioned them around where I planned to place my photo. I pushed all the circle pieces out of my mesh and put them aside. I have also added some book page strips, builders tape and texture paste through a matching stencil.
2/ Cover the entire background and spare circles in 2-3 coats of gesso. You want to make each background material absorb the next layer at the same intensity to get an even colour. Make sure you let each layer dry between coats.
3/ Using spray inks and water, colour your background and spare circles. I started by spritzing the whole thing with water, then used one purple and two blue inks to add colour. I again spritzed with water to re-activate the inks and then flicked some purple ink around the place for a more intense colour.
4/ I had hoped some ink pooling would highlight the different texture of the background but it didn't work. Instead, I took a bronze ink pad and rubbed it over all the raised areas to highlight them.

5/ Once the ink is dry, cover your spare circles with dimensional magic and set aside to dry fully.
6/ Pretty up your background, how you go about this is up to you. I placed some washi tape strips around the photo area and edges of the page, then rubbed gesso over them with my finger to blend them into the background better. I stamped some bubble wrap circles in white acrylic ink randomly over the background. I used spray adhesive to stick down two lengths of balled up thread. Lastly, I used a script stamp to create a border around the edges of my layout.

6/ Add your embellishments and title. For this layout that involved scattering the spare circles and some sequins from top right to bottom left corner of the layout. I also added two charms (CH019 Lock #2) to the layout, one at the title and one at the bottom right of the photo just after the date. My title is a Kaisercraft sticker and a piece from CB1189 Scrap Words 01.

There you go, an easy mixed media layout in just six steps! Show us what you create with the new mesh by sharing in the gallery.

Sharing Cards & a Farewell

Hello everyone,

Here we are at February, the month of love you could say if you are one to get involved in the Valentine's Day tradition. Not so much for us since it's 2 days before my birthday and maybe asking a little much of the other half ;)

However, it's a great time to make a hand made card for your loved ones using up some items from your stash. That's pretty much how these latest shares came about. A few 6x6 pages from a mini pad, some Scrapmatts and other stuff that was already on my desk... and the end result is 3 cards and an ATC in less than an hour.

And some close ups of the individual cards

I think I used maybe 4 pages from a 6x6 pad, a couple of tags and bits that co-ordinated and as I said, everything else was already floating about on my desk (yes it needs a clean up). I am such a big fan of stash buster creations.

However this post also comes with sadness from my end as this is my last post as part of the Scrapmatts design team, after spending more than 2 years on this wonderful team. I have been so lucky to have had the opportunity to share with you all here and over at the Ning website in this time, so grateful to Sofie and Andrew for the opportunity and of the support of my fellow DT members.

My choice to stand down was a tricky one however in the past year my scrapbooking has decreased drastically in the traditional sense, with my rarely doing any paper based creating these days. Instead I have shifted more so to digital creating which is a bit easier to manage time wise.

But don't worry, you will still be seeing me. I will be popping in and sharing in the Ning website still and following along with the rest of the DT and their amazing creations.

So it is time for me to say my farewell.

Thank you everyone

New Year and new releases!

Don't you love it when happy mail arrives and you have new goodies to play with? Well I did a happy dance when some of the new releases at Scrapmatts arrived in my mail box :) I'm totally in love with the new Mesh chippies - not only are they gorgeous but they come in three different sizes! This means they can be used on smaller projects like cards, tags and ATC's as well as bigger projects such as layouts and OTP.
Seeing as we've just finished the Summer school holidays I wanted to used some bright, strong colours to reflect the happy times the girls have spent in the garden and pool:
Using Scrapmatts chipboard Hexagon Mesh CB5123, Scrap Words CB1189 and Ornate Frame CB5095. Scrapmatts Charms used Filigree Flower CH076, Clock from Assorted Charms CH031 and Rectangle Frame

The Rectangle Frame charm has been filled with glass beads and a paper butterfly added

The gorgeous Ornate Frame has been cut in half and placed under the photo

The Hexagon Mesh comes as a square piece that you can cut to the size you need and the solid pieces can be removed and placed where needed to add movement to your page:

I think it's time to go back and play with some more of the new releases!!!!

Cards on hand.

Hi Everyone, Anne here today.  The beginning of the year often sees me trying to get organised and one of these steps means having spare birthday cards around ready just in case.  I prepared these cards featuring some BRAND NEW Diamond Mesh, where I have woven some ribbon through it.

This mesh comes in different designs and you will be seeing it feature in some of the design teams future pieces I am very sure.

I also incorporated some words and then put one of the New Font Happy Birthdays after heat embossing it in Leaf Green.

I hope you like what I am sharing and I will be putting up a couple of other items in the Scrapmatts NING.

Regards

Anne
