Layers and Stencils .....

Good morning how are you on this fine Sunday?  I love days like this lazy sleep ins well more lazy lie ins as I a unconvinced that my children dont believe in sleep.... but its a great way to just chill and enjoy a day doing nothing before the week starts again..... 

So I thought I would pop in and share some creative work before I go and potter in my studio.

 I love layering my chipboard also cutting it is a great way to extend your stash!!!

Stencils are my favourite go to product especially when you want to create something original all you need is some texture paste and your off....... 

Dont be afraid to layer a lot of different stencils.....

WHIMSY NOTE BOOKS

Hello again and welcome to my DT Project for February.

This month I have covered the fronts of 3 note books.

 

This is the first one featuring the CB1220 Ornate Frame and the CB4070 String Circle Roses.

The charms CH036 are also from Scrapmatts.

To decorate the background I have used the ST1026 Circle stencil, gesso, plasterer's tape and Finnabair's Rust Paint to add colour to the chipboard pieces. I have also coloured the metal embellishments with the rust paint. The flowers are from 49 and Market. The washi tape is from my own stash. The image is from Dyan Reaveley Adhesive Canvas prints.

Life has really got very hectic in my household and I am late with my post! Sorry


I am so excited to share my layouts today.  If you hadn't noticed I love using stencils and mixed media on my layouts.

I love how this one ended up.

I remember the old saying that blue and green should never be seen . . ., however I think they are very wrong, I love this combo.

I did this layout for a challenge which required you to use 3 stencils - right up my alley.

I have used a new Scrapmatts Hexagon stencil which comes in 3 sizes - very clever.  I used the large one with some clear texture paste onto a painted surface.  The paint wasn't fully dry which enabled it to spread through the stencil.  I then used the Cracks stencil with some green texture paste and then topped off the background with blue texture paste through the smallest Hexagon stencil.

To match the stencil I used Hexagon chipboard around my photo. Love how Scrapmatts have stencils and background chipboard of the same pattern.

The heart in the corner is made up of two pieces - I separated them and inked the inside in green and the outside in blue.  Love the final effect.

February creating with Helen

Hello again - Helen here with you today with three projects using

the super versatile Scrapmatts products

First up is a little boy’s page with less than perfect photos.
I think the addition of the Scrapmatts goodies enhanced the photos 
well enough for them to be used on a page.  
The papers are older ones by Simple Stories, "Say cheese" collection.
They are still a favourite with me.

I love the large circles and treated these by randomly applying distress paint and Stampendous embossing powder.  I also trimmed some of the circle from beneath the photo and added it at the top of the photo for extra impact .

The stars were created with texture paste through a stencil 

and then painted with Colour Blast paste.

The word was dabbed with Colour Blast paste and rubbed back a bit
to create a mottled look.

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-

You came to stay overnight in the caravan with us when you were 20 months old.   All went well until bed time, when you discovered you were expected to sleep on the lowered table, which converted into a bed.   Always a stickler for things being done properly, you were not convinced that sleeping on a table was a good idea!  We tucked you in and looked for your usual bed time companions.  We found your Hunga (Snuggly) but not your Dummy. We rang  Daddy, but he didn’t have a spare one at home.  It was a Sunday night; all the shops were closed.  I rang many pharmacies in Glenelg trying to find a Nuk Dummy.  Eventually I tracked one down and Pa drove off to buy it.  When he walked back through the door with it, your face lit up and you said “Awwh thank you sooo much Pa, you found my dummy”   You cuddled up with it and your snuggly on the table/bed and went to sleep in minutes.

My next project is a girly one about my Grand Daughter's 3rd Birthday.

The delicate background paper is from Blue Fern, Attic Charm collection, "Haberdashery" 

Let's take a closer look.

I heat embossed the sweet frame at the top of the photo.

The butterfly was painted with water colour, then topped with 

dimensional magic and tiny beads. Although subtle,

 you can see the textured hearts made with the heart stencil. 

You can see the textured hearts again here, as well as one of the new pieces which come with a new frame set.  I cut up the flourishes to include in my cluster.  The "Happy" title and the flourishes were both wet embossed with Stampendous embossing powder.

At three you delight in choosing your pretty clothes, swishing around in anything floaty and wearing flowers in your hair.  Your Daddy tells the story of one quite nice outfit he wanted you to wear which you took a dislike to saying, "I'm not wearing that, it will make me look like a grey, old, dead, bat!"  I'm not sure who won that particular skirmish, but I suspect it was you.   Love Granny August 2014

Lastly I have a clean and simple card which I made for a friends Birthday.

Her favourite colour is blue, so I used these beautiful Maja papers.

The butterfly was painted and topped with dimensional magic and beads.

The tiny heart was painted with crackle and gold.

The birthday sentiment was given a swish of distress paint to team with the blue paper.

February Creating with Lizzy.

Hello there, how are you?  I hope you are having a great day!

I have a few things to share with you today using some wonderful SCRAPMATTS  products.

Firstly I have created two cards for my stash of cards, you can never have too many cards just waiting for the right occasion to be used. ( My daughter often comes and asks me for a card or two for her friends!!)

For the first card I have used some fabulous STRING CIRCLES as well as the sentiment from the ASSORTED WORDS 21 and I also popped a couple of butterflies from that pack as well..

The second card is a bright and cheerful card that would be perfect for a birthday. I just love the CHRISTMAS STARS which I have used adding some sparkle with some glitter! (SSHHH dont tell anyone they are from a Christmas pack, I think these stars can be used for lots of other occasions!!) In fact I have used lots of stars on this card, with the STRING CIRCLES and the small stars from the christmas star pack!!

Next I would like to share with you a layout I have created using lots of SCRAPMATTS products.

I have used some new chipboard ORNATE FRAMES 26 which you can layer up..  In the first close up you can see the bottom layer of the frame. I have altered it using several types of embossing powder to give a textured look.

and in the next close up you can see I have added another flourish layer over the swirls.

I have placed the top layer just a tiny bit on the side for extra dimension. I love these frames, they are so pretty!!
Another new chipboard I have added to my layout is the STRING CIRCLES 07 which I have placed under my photo, and on the side of my page..

On the circles on the side of my page I have layered a gorgeous FLORAL DESIGN  vine embossed in green.  And for my title I have used the wonderful word 'friends' from ASSORTED WORDS 30 .

  And by  now you are probably wondering what my layout looks like.. so here it is...

A photo of one of my Daughters and her Friend all dressed up for a special occasion.. I thought the LATTICE STENCIL was a pretty touch on the back ground too.. And I will list off all the Scrapmatts I have used on my layout..

so it is a pleasure for me to mirror such dedication

by devoting this months post to them.

It is also likely that next months post following special

celebrations will feature the same duo.

In the end, I used quite a few goodies from my

Scrapmatts stash but with so much to choose from it is hard

to restrain ones inspiration...So why try and limit it...

Unforgettable Memories

To start with I used texture paste to apply triangles to

the canvas board and once dry, by turning the ink pad

upside down and rubbing over the stencilled texture

coloured it with Victoria Velvet.

Over this I stencilled with one of the NEW A4 Circles Stencils and

applied a clear gesso over it so the underlying colours were not obscured.

With Brilliance Inks & Glimmermist I added colour to the background

as well as the numerous chipboard pieces.

The central highlight of the canvas is a photo that I cut to fit the

Ornate Frame 01 which was also coloured with ink.

Once all the elements were coloured and positioned as I

wanted them they were glued.

With the exclusion of the photo, the entire canvas was dusted with

Gold Perfect Pearls using a paintbrush.

This made the whole canvas glow.

It didn't take me long to find yet another perfect title for this

creation from the extensive selection of Scrap Words and

splitting this top & bottom framed the central piece.

Together We Have It All & More

I was looking for a geometric meets warehouse industrial look &

feel and again Scrapmatts came to the rescue.

I started with the Graffiti Paper & after cutting segments out of

the Brick Paper stuck them on top to break up the base and

begin the building of the Background.

Using this combined background I stencilled over it with

Bling & Hearts using texture paste.

Gathering all the Chipboard pieces I went to work colouring

them with Inks to complement the various sections of the

theme they were intended for.

Some of the larger background Chipboards I cut up and by placing

them under & on the photo was able to take full advantage

of their coverage.

The tree from Trees 03 once on the page was sprayed with

green & blue to blend with the background paper.

The Leaves of the tree were first inked with Crimson then fixed &

sprayed using the same green & blue combination.

Continuing with the industrial look I combined a Lamp with Chain,

coloured it to take on a rustic look and hung it above the

photo as if to shine light on them.

The final touches were Chain around the photo, Distressing

with Crimson Ink around the layout border and adorned it with

some more and ever thoughtful Scrap Words from a selection from

sets 11 & 32.
