My Girls: By Rhonda

Hello again all my lovelies, I have dragged myself from the craft room to this confounded device to again bring you three of my creations and YEP...Plenty of our awesome Scrapmatts goodies are again the feature.

No prizes up for grabs to guess that my family feature in both pieces.
Another canvas is offered up for my first with my daughter front and centre followed by a Scrapmatts Federation Tray highlighting the beauty of my son's partner accompanied by her birthday card.

Family Means Love

To start with I covered the 8 x 10 canvas panel with a sheet of Blue Fern's Autumn Anthology. Following this I used texture paste laid over the ST5045 Circle Stencil and once dried coloured it with a variety of LSG's.

I added more layers of the same paper to the sides under the CB5010 Ornate Frame 10 and did the same with the paper doily at the top.
On the image above right you can see the script stamp I used...This stamp is only available from Scrapmatts shows.

The frame colour was enhanced with Dew Drop Turquoise Gem, the photo was added and then dressed with some flowers and flourishes.

The flower at the top right was framed by the inner section of CB5138 String Circles 02 whilst CB2003 Page Borders 02 was cut in half and utilised in two positions and coloured to match the theme.

CB6113 Scrap Words 32 - "Family Means Love" stood out as the logical title.
Just the butterfly and the heart from CB6102 Assorted Words 21 were used as small embellishments as final touches apart for a few flowers.

Naomi's Birthday Frame

The ever lovely Sofie gave me this awesome Federation Tray as a challenge whilst Scrapmatts were in Perth...Challenge Accepted...

The CB7013 Australian Federation Tray 05 was first given 4 coats of white MDF spray paint then as a background to the photo I chose a patterned paper that complimented it. I was very happy that even though many coats of paint were used that all the fine details were still highlighted.

Flanking the sides and top was a collection of 49 and Market flowers in multi-blue. I could have gone mad with these flowers but covering up Andrew's stunning fretwork would have been sinful.
I really do hope I have done the Federation piece justice.

........................................................................

And no birthday is complete without a card so I knocked up a matching card from the left over paper & flowers whilst adding that all important touch that is always within my reach from my Scrapmatts Chipboard Stash that helps so much with my creativity.

The bodice I used from my stash and give it a bit of life with some blue colour.
To tie the 2 girls projects together I used a small heart & butterfly from CB6102 Assorted Words 21 on each.

Stencil Fun - Lauren Tomecek

I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to find out Scrapmatts was expanding into stencils! Stencils are probably my second favourite scrapbooking item, after chipboard of course. :) They can be used in so many different ways and create so many different effects. I've used them a couple of different ways in this blog post and hope I've inspire you to pick up a few for yourself from their online shop.

First up, I created this canvas display piece. I had been saving this idea for a while now and the brick stencil was the last item I needed to make it happen. I applied texture paste through the stencil over the whole canvas, the different way the paste absorbs the mist makes for some great definition of the shapes. I then built up the scene with various chipboard pieces painted with acrylics.

Chipboard used: CB5137 Ornate Toppers 01, CB2026 Picket Fences 09, CB4058 Australian Federation Detail 03, CB5120 Windows 04, CB1146 Leaf Spray 01, CB2020 Vines 01, CB6071 Assorted Words 07.
Stencil: ST5013.

The stencils are also perfect for using to create backgrounds on cards. I whipped up this one for my husband for Valentine's Day. I used the diamonds stencil to add a subtle white gesso pattern and then misted over the paint splatters in two different colours.

Chipboard used: CB5113 Heart Frames 10, CB1199 Scrap Words 07.
Stencils: ST1002, ST5010.

This one has a wash of gesso for the background then the smaller paint splatters stencil in two colours. I love the random effect they give whilst in actual fact giving you total control of where the colour ends up.

Chipboard used: CB1121 Words 26 Best Wishes
Stencil: ST1009 Stencil Paint Drips

Don't forget that Scrapmatts is having a Design Team Call at the moment. Entries close on the 19th so you'll need to get a wriggle on but we would love to see you join the team!

Work/Life Balance in Action

In a perfect example of the constant struggle to achieve a work/life balance, I have created one LO about my personal life and completed one off-the-page project for work.

My work recently gave all the staff members notebooks in which to record topics for discussion at our fortnightly staff meetings to further our understanding of best practice principles. My first question was of course 'Can I decorate this?', given they were all the same brightly rainbow striped books.

After a very fun session of getting inky, this is the end result of my new 'Best Practice' notebook. I love this style of mixed media as it looks you use up lots of left over bits and pieces. I used a lot of beautiful Scrapmatts chipboard on this cover: CB5002 Ornate Frame 03; CB4063 Leaf Spray 13; CB6036 Dress Forms 01; CB1204 Ribbon Banners 01; CB1121 Words 26 Best Wishes; CB1145 Flowers 09.

Here we have the first baby-related scrapbook page! In my true fashion of scrapping things late, this is the 8 week ultrasound and I am currently at 17 weeks. I'm sure I will only fall further behind from here. It feels like ages since the last time I scrapped anything, I think it might have been a full month. Morning sickness decided to ramp up rather than go away in my second trimester so it's still taking me a little while to get through everything and unfortunately keeping the house clean-ish has eaten into my craft time.

This is a Scrapmatts DT LO so have lots of lovely little chipboard pieces on it: CB1002 Flourishes 03; CB5110 Layered Owls 02; CB5107 Arrows 01; CB1189 Scrapwords 01; CB1220 Ornate Frames 22 (Feb new release).

Close up shots show off the Scrapmatts chipboard, which I have just painted in suitable colours to match the LO. The 'Oh Happy Day' tag pulls out and contains some brief journalling. Papers are from Kaisercraft.

Cards, Tags, Sunsets and New Releases!

Welcome to my blog post for February. February is such an exciting time because it's the start of all the craft shows in the new year which means lots of exciting new releases! Scrapmatts have heaps of stunning new designs this year (I'm loving the hanging hearts some of the girls showed earlier this month) and I have featured a couple of the other designs in my projects for this month too.

First up I created a matching card and tag set. I think there's nothing wrong with repeating a design if it works for you on a second project. These two are both a bit more feminine than my usual work but it was enjoyable to change it up.
Scrapmatts goodies used: CB6090 Ornate Frames 18 (NEW); CH004 Filigree Flower #2; CH010 Filigree Flower #5; CB1121 Words 26 Best Wishes; CB3011 Tags 07; CB1204 Ribbon Banners 01; CB1198 Scrapwords 06.

I was also sent a pack of the mini-tag scrapwords new release and even though the pack is sailing theme, I found these two tags were perfect for my sunset layout. Don't be afraid to think outside the box when using chipboard, sometimes using it for something other than it's intended purpose gives the most amazing results.
Scrapmatts goodies used: CB1218 Scrap Words 19 (NEW); CB5106 Chevrons 01; CH026 Butterflies #7.

This last card is just a quick valentines day card I threw together for my husband with some bits and pieces I had lying around.
Scrapmatts goodies used: CB4005 Hearts Frame 06; CB1191 Scrapwords 03; CH030 Arrows #1.

Don't forget to share your own projects with us over at the gallery, we would love to see what you have created using Scrapmatts pieces.
